Sandfire Resources (SFR) has appointed Brendan Harris as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

Mr Harris is an experienced mining executive, having previously held senior roles with BHP and South32.

“Brendan impressed us with his broad range of skills and his vision for Sandfire to be a safe and sustainability-focused, global copper mining company that is well-positioned to meet the needs of a rapidly growing market,” Sandfire Non-Executive Chair John Richards said.

“Importantly, Brendan shares the board’s views on Sandfire’s strategy for continued, profitable growth and has well-developed ideas on the implementation of that strategy.”

The role comes with a $1.2 million yearly salary, to be reviewed annually, along with short- and long-term incentives subject to key performance milestones.

Sandfire told investors the appointment positioned it to execute the next phase of its growth strategy and capitalise on its emerging position as a multi-mine producer of copper.

The company’s selection of Mr Harris follows a global search after founding CEO Karl Simich made the decision to step down from the role on September 30.

Mr Harris will start in the new role on April 3, 2023. In the interim, Jason Grace will continue as Acting Chief Executive Officer. Mr Grace will continue as Chief Operating Officer once Mr Harris takes the reins.

Sandfire Resources was up 5.62 per cent and trading at $4.23 at midday AEDT.
