Renergen (ASX:RLT) has announced its facility to produce liquid helium production is now online with the full train fired up.

Currently, liquid helium is accumulating ahead of customer sales which will see at least one on-road tanker pulling up on-site to carry away the product. Renergen noted on Friday the OEM of the helium plant has since departed South Africa.

However, a specialist from the US has been at the project since late July with that individual providing guidance.

“His experience with several cryogenic helium plants has helped our team greatly shorten what is typically accepted as an iterative process to optimal performance,” Renergen wrote on Friday.

The company reported it has optimised best practices at the plant leading to a reduced start-up and cooldown time (as well as figuring out the supercooling needed to ensure helium stays liquid.)

Helium has applications in many high-tech industries – including the manufacture of MRI machines. Management framed the milestone as well-earned.

“Despite the challenges encountered in reaching this milestone, we are thrilled to have achieved this significant development and to commence LHe sales to our customers,” RLT CEO Stefano Marani said.

“Our team has unequivocally demonstrated its capability to manage and operate this facility effectively in the face of challenges and under extreme pressure.”
