Graphene technology company Sparc Technologies (SPN) has appointed Mike Bartels as CEO, effective immediately.

As part of this appointment, Tom Spurling will stand down as Managing Director but will remain on the board as a Non-Executive Director.

“We are delighted to welcome someone of Mike’s calibre and industry experience to head the team at Sparc,” Executive Chairman Stephen Hunt said.

“We also wish to thank Tom Spurling for his time as Managing Director and look forward to his ongoing contribution through his role as Non-Executive Director,” he added.

Mike holds a degree of Science in Applied Chemistry and has experience in sales and marketing with major companies such as the coating and paint manufacturing companies, Sherwin Williams and AkzoNobel.

His previous roles include head of marketing, business development manager and sales director for protective coatings, paint and insulation products.

In this role at Sparc he will fast-track the company’s ongoing technical and commercial business activities.

“I am truly excited to be joining Sparc at this pivotal time as we pioneer new graphene technologies to disrupt and transform industry and science for a cleaner, greener and healthier world,” Mike commented.

“We will be looking to accelerate multiple projects aimed at reducing global carbon footprints and emissions, increasing durability, longevity and sustainability of products and infrastructure across large industrial markets, create new technologies for environmental remediation and aim for better human health outcomes,” he added.

Sparc is up 3.23 per cent on the market and shares are trading at 32 cents at 3:03 pm AEDT.
