Alvo Minerals (ASX: ALV) was an early riser after drilling at the Bluebush ionic adsorption clay heavy rare earth project in Brazil defined broad mineralised areas, enriched in the highest priced magnet heavy rare earths – dysprosium and terbium (DyTb_.

Assay results demonstrate Bluebush is enriched with heavy rare earth elements (HREE) with an average content of 26ppm DyTb in the significant intercepts, comparing favourably with other IAC projects globally.

“The importance of the heavy rare earths at Bluebush cannot be understated. Dysprosium and terbium make up around one eighth of the magnet rare earth content in the intercepts reported today, which places Bluebush alongside our neighbour at Serra Verde as a heavy rare earth enriched system on the same Serra Dourada granite,” MD, Rob Smakman, said.

“Dysprosium and terbium are subject to Chinese export controls and their prices ex-China are skyrocketing. Their rarity means they command a premium of 16 times the price in China – and that gap is widening.”

ALV took off and was up 115% to 4.3¢ at the time of going to press. Western Yilgarn (ASX: WYX) was up on news it had commenced a regional soil geochemical and rock chip sampling program over its Gascoyne gold projects in Western Australia.

The program represents the next stage of systematic exploration following the identification of seven structural/geophysical gold targets from interpretation of airborne magnetic, radiometric and gravity datasets.

“The commencement of soil and rock-chip sampling at the Gascoyne gold project represents an important next step in systematically advancing Western Yilgarn’s gold exploration portfolio,” NED, Pedro Kastellorizos, said.

“Importantly, our 100%-owned E09/2986 and E09/2987 licences are located approximately 11 km south of Benz Mining’s Glenburgh gold project and occur within the same prospective Dalgaringa Supersuite lithological package.”

WYX jumped 14.3% to 4.0¢.

Lakes Blue Energy (ASX: LKO) was popular on HotCopper forums after it revealed it was aiming to bring the Wombat gas field in Victoria on stream next month.

The company is currently preparing for a Wombat-5 well workover, perforation and testing program at the onshore Gippsland Basin field.

The startup next month remains dependent on completion of manufacture of the specialist perforating equipment in the United States, air freight to Australia and final mobilisation arrangements.

“We are delighted to have final regulatory approvals, and are well progressed with preparation,” chairman, Hugh Robertson, said.

“The company remains optimistic that the flow testing results will support the key assumptions in the potential development model announcement of 2 July 2026.”

LKO was up 25.5% to 29.5¢.

Looking wider, the S&P/ASX 200 opened lower today, dropping 33.90 points or 0.39% to 8,693.80. The bottom performing stocks in this index are Weebit Nano and Silex Systems, down 9.55% and 8.78% respectively. Over the last five days, the index has gained 0.92% but is virtually unchanged year to date.

Elsewhere, the first sod is being turned today for the largest mining investment in Northern Territory history, the $1.6 billion Nolans rare earths project near Alice Springs.

Nolans is one of the most advanced rare earths projects in the world and will become the first integrated rare earths mine and processing facility of its kind in Australia.

The project is forecast to contribute $25.2 billion to the Territory economy over its 38-year life, positioning Alice Springs as the logistics, services and workforce hub for construction and decades of operations to follow.

Chief Minister, Lia Finocchiaro, said the project represented an opportunity to deliver quality jobs for Territorians at every level, from providing local employment and work for businesses to supporting defence and advanced manufacturing.

“Nolans is a nation-building project that will create good local jobs for decades to come, strengthen the Territory economy and cement the NT’s place at the centre of Australia’s critical minerals future,” the Chief Minister said.
