Titomic (TTT) is forming a joint venture with Repkon Machine and Tool Industry and Trade (Repkon) to build a factory in Australia that will make weapon system barrels.

The Turkish company, Repkon, provides turn-key complete production plants for the metal forming sector and is also a designer, manufacturer and supplier of key metal forming machines and products for the global market.

Under the signed heads of agreement, Repkon plans to design the barrels to be manufactured using Titomic’s Kinetic Fusion Technology (TKF).

According to Titomic, TKF utilises the supersonic particle deposition of metal powders to create industrial-scale parts and complex surface coatings.

The technology was co-developed with Australia’s CSIRO and allows for the application of cold-gas dynamic spraying of titanium or titanium alloy particles onto a scaffold to produce a load-bearing structure.

Titomic predicts this new facility will enhance Australian defence manufacturing capabilities and open up export opportunities for the global supply of barrels.

The facility is set to provide job opportunities for advanced manufacturing as well as contribute to the national industry 4.0 agenda for advanced manufacturing technologies.

Combining advanced metals and materials with additive manufacturing, and robotics, the companies believe this industrial production “eco-system” will be a world-first.

Interim CEO of Titomic Norbert Schulze commented on the partnership.

“We are excited about the possibility of working with Repkon to manufacture barrels in Australia using our Kinetic Fusion Technology, enhancing the Australian manufacturing ecosystem, creating jobs and working together with our partners to provide best in class products.”

CEO of Repkon, Ibrahim Kulekci, is also optimistic about the JV.

“Titomic is a leading company with proven reliability in metal additive manufacturing so, having them as our joint venture partner, will be extremely beneficial in producing and selling barrels designed by Repkon,” he said.

Shares are in the grey at 52 cents a piece at 12:59pm AEDT.
