Universal Biosensors (UBI) has entered into a non-exclusive distribution deal with Vivelys SAS for the distribution of its Sentia wine testing platform device.

UBI designs and develops electrochemical cells for use together with point-of-use devices across the healthcare, wine, food and agriculture industries. Its Sentia platform is a new product, which is being launched globally.

Based in France, Vivelys falls under the umbrella of the Oeneo Group and is focused on the analysis of grape vines and the ageing of wines in oak barrels through every stage of the winemaking process.

The parties’ distribution deal has a three-year term and contains standard renewal and termination options available to both UBI and Vivelys.

Universal Biosensors CEO John Sharman said the partnership in the French market was a significant step for the global commercialisation of the technology.

“Vivelys is part of the Oeneo Group which has more than 10,000 customers worldwide and has a reputation for developing and selling high end products,” he said.

“Importantly this partnership extends beyond the simple distribution of Sentia as Vivelys has expressed a strong desire to participate in the development of other wine testing capabilities to be used on UBI’s Sentia platform.”

Vivelys Director of Development Laurent Fargeton said the company was pleased to partner with UBI to offer Sentia to wine companies in France.

“We were seduced by Universal Biosensors’ expertise and the practicality of their measurement solution, and so we felt it was logical to sign a partnership agreement,” he said.

“With its ability to measure free sulphur dioxide simply and immediately, and soon sugars and malic acid, Sentia strengthens Vivelys’ solutions, enabling winemakers to make the right decisions at the right time.”

Shares closed up 3.90 per cent at 80 cents.
