xReality Group (XRG), previously Indoor Skydive Australia Group, is set to launch its first in-house developed virtual reality (VR) game at its FREAK Entertainments Bondi venue.

Today’s announcement is the company’s first under its new name, after officially transitioning from Indoor Skydiving Australia earlier this week.

FREAK venues offer immersive, multiplayer VR experiences with games and escape rooms with venues across NSW and one on the Gold Coast, Queensland.

The game, Cowboys vs Aliens, is a four-player free roam VR game that was developed by XRG’s recently acquired VR studio, Red Cartel.

The game is set on a futuristic space station, each team of two players chooses to be either Space Cowboys or Aliens.

According to the company, the game doesn’t require a computer backpack, which is hoped to appeal to younger audiences who are typically unable to play games that require a backpack due to the weight of the equipment.

Cowboys vs Aliens will first pilot at FREAK Bondi in the December-January school holidays, with roll out to all venues scheduled for quarter 3 of the financial year 2022.

xReality is aiming to release a minimum of four games over the next 12 months. It said the in house games will deliver incremental value to the company directly by lowering game licensing costs, broadening the customer demographic, and building company owned game IP.

Moreover, the company said this direction enables growth-focused business models for FREAK Entertainment, including “turnkey” systems and franchising.

Shares were trading 9.5 per cent higher at 6.8 cents at 1:44 pm AEDT.
