Ardea Resources (ARL) has been granted two groundwater licences to supply its Goongarrie Hub at the company’s Kalgoorlie nickel operation.
The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation has granted the licences for the abstraction of 3.5 gigalitres of saline water for processing and mine dewatering, plus development activities within at Goongarrie.
The two licences will allow Ardea secure access to water on a long-term basis, providing base-load water requirements for the 3.5 million tonnes per annum Goongarrie Hub processing facility.
The facility is currently undergoing a definitive feasibility study for the development of a multi decade nickel-cobalt development.
Ardea Managing Director Andrew Penkethman, said the granting of the Goongarrie Hub groundwater licences is another step towards the development of a sustainable and ethical nickel-cobalt project.
“With the Kalgoorlie nickel project hosting the largest nickel-cobalt resource in Australia, the company is well placed to provide a significant supply response for the lithium-ion battery sector, from the best resources operating jurisdiction in the world,” Mr Penkethman said.
“Importantly, Ardea owns 100 per cent of the resource and all processing facilities will be located on the same granted mining leases that host our resources, which will guarantee that the company has custody of all aspects of the operation so that best practice project management is assured.”
The licences last an initial period of 10 years, with the potential to be renewed.
Ardea Resources were up 2.5 per cent to 81.5 cents at 10am AEDT.
