Nanoveu (ASX:NVU) has surged to 4.2cps on Friday after the nanotechnology developer’s soon-to-be-acquired system-on-a-chip (SoC) semiconductor business Embedded A.I. Systems (EMASS) started chip testing.

EMASS expects results from the MLPerf Tiny AI benchmark testing to return as soon as next week after work on the ECS-DOT chipset started today.

This quick turnaround — and Nanoveu’s claims that any successful tests will “demonstrate the market-leading potential of the ECS-DOT chipset” — has HotCopper users very excited.

The markets shared that same sentiment, with NVU trading 10.53% higher.

Focus now turns to the internal test results, with any future Nanoveu excitement to be guided by two metrics: Whether the Embedded chip succeeds at person detection and image classification and how it shapes compared to STMicroelectronics and Syntiant, who boast US$24.8b and US$500m market cap respectively.

Alfred Chong, the managing director at Nanoveu, said the company will also run tests to see how well the new chips integrate with Nanoveu’s EyeFly3D technology.

“As the anticipated demand for our EyeFly3D technology grows, this testing is a critical step in preparing for the integration of EMASS chipsets into devices supporting our EyeFly3DTM platform,” Chong explained.

“It also allows for optimisation of the chipset’s performance for next-generation 3D applications and helps demonstrate the market-leading potential of the ECS-DOT chipset itself. By validating person detection and image classification specifically, EMASS is positioning itself to play a crucial role in meeting the growing demand for powerful and power-efficient SoCs.”

Should the tests prove successful, these EMASS chips could be applied to self-navigating drones, autonomous driving systems, smart home systems, and more.

NVU last traded at 4.2cps today.
