  • Assays from maiden drilling at Clifton East prospect returns encouraging results.
  • Drilling only covered 350m of the 1.2km strike of a main trend.
  • Large trend previously defined by soil sampling and high-grade rock chips.
  • Follow-up drilling at Clifton East planned.

Augustus Minerals (ASX:AUG) has identified gold upside with positive assay results from a maiden drilling program at the Clifton East prospect within the Music Well Gold Project (MWGP) in Western Australia.

The assays returned from four metre composite samples are highlighted by 16 metres at 1.46 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from 28 metres, including 12 metres at 1.91 g/t; 12 metres at 0.80g/t gold from 68 metres, including four metres at 1.13 g/t; and 32m at 0.90 g/t from 40m, including four metres at 2.72 g/t gold.

“The maiden drilling program at Clifton East has delivered encouraging results from the initial 4.0m composite sampling,” GM of exploration, Andrew Ford, said.

“These early indications suggest the potential for a broader mineralised system, both at Clifton East and across the wider Music Well project, which hosts several un-drilled targets supported by high-grade rock chip samples.

“The upcoming one metre assay results will be important in defining grade distribution and continuity.”

The company is planning to undertake a follow-up drilling at Clifton East once the one-metre samples are assayed.

The first-ever drilling program was completed on the high-priority Clifton East prospect in mid-March with 1,100 metres drilled from 11 holes.

The drilling only covered 350 metres of the 1.2km strike of the main trend, which was previously defined by soils and rock chips.

The drilling intersected several zones of quartz veining, silicification, traces of oxidised and fresh sulphide (pyrite).

Mr Ford said the complexity in the geology identified supports the interpretation of the northeast-trending Clifton East shear/fault zone being a major, deep penetrating, long active structure favourable for sourcing gold-bearing fluids.

Augustus holds the exploration licenses and applications comprising the MWGP, which is located 35km north of Leonora in the Leonora/Laverton Greenstone Belt of WA.

The 1,242sqkm of the MWGP tenements is not only one of the largest exploration packages in the region; it also abuts tenements of active mining operations.

AUG is up +3.13%, to 3.3¢. Mkt cap $6.603M.
