Minrex Resources (ASX: MRR) has returned its strongest drill results to date from the Barje Deposit in Serbia, with new intersections challenging the geological model and pointing to broader high-grade continuity through the centre of the system.
In this interview with HotCopper, Max Piirto of Minrex discusses the intercepts and stellar drill results reported at Barje.
The standout result came from BAR046, which returned 36 metres at 5.85g/t gold equivalent from 47 metres, including 14 metres at 7.74g/t AuEq and a 4.2-metre interval at 15.67g/t AuEq.
The results are significant because the mineralisation is both thick and relatively shallow, potentially supporting higher head grades and a lower strip ratio in the early stages of any future open-pit operation.
The company is now evaluating additions to its diamond drilling programme, while the existing rig continues step-out drilling along strike to test for further extensions.
The next major milestone is Minrex’s maiden JORC 2012 Mineral Resource Estimate for Tlamino, scheduled for next quarter, which will provide the first opportunity to incorporate the newly identified central high-grade zone into a JORC-compliant resource.
For investors, the combination of further drilling, potential resource-category conversion and the maiden resource will be key milestones in determining how much of the newly identified upside can ultimately be captured in the project’s resource base.
