For those playing at home, ATC’s silumina anode product effectively offers an alternative battery to lithium-ion, which are known to pose a high fire risk and suffer difficulties operating in extreme temperatures.
The battery company assessing the product, Altech noted Monday, works in the electric vehicle (EV) space, as opposed to being a university lab-scale operation, and the company has specifically requested Altech to provide graphite-coated product.
Testwork so far shows the silumina anode battery product clocked 83% retention across 1,0000 charging cycles. Samples were manufactured for the testing in particular, and Altech reported on Monday initial verbal feedback is positive.
“The Battery Group’s team, during preliminary discussions, indicated that across the industry they have not yet seen silicon additions deliver such meaningful performance improvements at low percentages,” ATC wrote.
“Traditionally, attempts to integrate silicon into commercial lithium‑ion anodes have been challenged… the strong performance of Altech’s coated silicon, achieved with only modest silicon loading, was highlighted as particularly noteworthy.”
ATC MD Iggy Tan described feedback as a keystone validation of the company’s tech, which it has been diligently developing through the COVID years and beyond.
“This engagement from the world’s largest battery manufacturer is a powerful validation of our Silumina Anodes technology,” Tan said. “Their early feedback, particularly noting they have not seen silicon additions perform this effectively at such low levels, reinforces the significance of our breakthrough.”
ATC last traded at 2.6cps.
