Nanocap BlueGlass (ASX:BLG) has reported breaking a world record when it comes to gallium nitride lasers, which it says now puts it in good stead for demand from quantum and defence industries.

According to the company, it’s found a way to clock the “highest known performance of a single emitter recorded to date both commercially and in academia.”

To explain, the Australian company makes lasers that can be used to manufacture other highly complex products.

The importance of BluGlass’s reported breakthrough on Tuesday claims to be that it has kept a highly precise laser running while using far more power.

“BluGlass… combines the benefits of a single-mode laser, and small form factor advantages for high-precision applications with the performance advantages of a high-brightness, high-power laser,” the company wrote.

The company says this hasn’t been achieved before – and now puts it on the map. It also says it wants to see sales to the quantum computing space. Make of that what you will.

“These lasers pave the way for scaling power at high fidelity – producing stable laser beams that can be more easily and cost-effectively packaged to meet the demands of next-generation applications where precise and stable performance is essential,” BluGlass CEO Jim Haden said.

“Most high-powered visible lasers sacrifice beam quality and precision to achieve more power in larger form factors. Our advanced integration capabilities will enable industry to pioneer innovations by increasing power without sacrificing precision and beam stability.”
