  • Legend Mining (LEG) delivers a maiden mineral resource estimate (MRE) for the Mawson deposit within the Rockford project in Western Australia
  • The indicated and inferred MRE reads 1.45 million tonnes at 1.14 per cent nickel, 0.74 per cent copper and 0.07 per cent cobalt
  • It’s based on 26 drillholes completed at the site between 2019 and 2021 – each of which intersected mineralisation from a shallow depth
  • The company says further drilling along strike or down-dip within the Mawson area may define extensions to known mineralisation or new zones of mineralisation

Legend Mining (LEG) has delivered a maiden mineral resource estimate for the Mawson deposit within the Rockford project in Western Australia.

The Mawson nickel-copper-cobalt deposit lies within E28/2188 and E28/2189, which falls under a joint venture between Legend and the Creasy Group, through Rockford Metals.

The mineral resource estimate (MRE) reads 1.45 million tonnes at 1.14 per cent nickel, 0.74 per cent copper and 0.07 per cent cobalt for 16,500 tonnes of contained nickel, 10,600 tonnes of copper, and 1100 tonnes of cobalt.

It was classified as ‘Indicated’ and ‘Inferred’ based on data quality, sample spacing, and lode continuity,

The MRE was based on 26 drillholes completed at the site between 2019 and 2021 for 8938 metres.

Each of the 24 diamond core and two reverse circulation drillholes intersected mineralisation, modelled from a shallow depth of 65 metres to 305 metres below surface.

“The rationale to publish this resource at Mawson was to quantify the success of our exploration efforts to date and to establish a base upon which we can continue to build a resource inventory at our Rockford project,” Legend Managing Director Mark Wilson said.

“This is the third published nickel resource in the Fraser Range, demonstrating that this under explored nickel belt has the potential to host further accumulations of nickel-copper sulphide.”

The company said further drilling along strike or down-dip within the Mawson area may define extensions to known mineralisation or new zones of mineralisation.

“Our ongoing systematic exploration efforts will look to discover more of these accumulations across Rockford.”

Legend Mining shares were up 4.35 per cent to trade at 4.8 cents at 10:40 am AEDT.
