Mobilicom (MOB) and U.S. drone company, Censys Technologies, will collaborate on a drone research project for Space Florida.

Censys is a drone company based in Daytona Beach, Florida. It designs and develops a wide range of drones and autonomous unmanned aerial systems (UAS) vehicles for UAS service providers and government organisations.

The joint Mobilicom and Censys project was one of four winners for Space Florida’s 2020 innovative research and development programs.

As a winner, Mobilicom will spend two years on the project, with a budget of $770,000 for the first year. Additional funds are expected in the second year.

The project is aimed at developing a communications system for autonomous drone and UAS to address the challenges that aviation authorities expect for safe drone and UAV operation in civilian airspace.

“The solution being developed with Censys is solving a major reliability aspect, which is a focus of the US Federal Aviation Authority,” Mobilicom CEO Oren Elkayam said.

The solution is proposing two wideband transmitting transceivers, with auto redundancy capability and on-going data-reception analysis for selecting the best momentary communication link.

It compiles advanced technologies that will enable a highly integrated dual-redundant simultaneous communications system for increased reliability and quality of service for command and control systems, telemetry, and awareness.

“It will enable the drone and UAS market to continue to grow by addressing the key needs and trends of autonomous beyond-line-of-sight operation,” Oren added.

At market close, Mobilicom is up 11.1 per cent and shares are trading for 8 cents each.
