Pioneer Minerals (ASX:PMM) has secured a formal “Road Use” permit from the U.S. Forest Service to reopen the historic Springfield Mine Road at its North Pine project in Idaho, which means the explorer now has safe vehicle access to the Springfield Prospect for field programs and resource definition again.

The approval is key because it lets Pioneer clear existing obstructions along the historic alignment rather than having to develop and build new routes.

Because there’s already so much existing infrastructure ready to use (once cleared), the permit means that Pioneer can save on capital expenditure; the explorer was originally facing helicopter-supported mobilisation.

“This approval represents a key enabling milestone for the Springfield Project and materially enhancing our ability to execute on-ground exploration activities,” Pioneer’s chief executive officer, Michael Beven, said today.

“With access now approved… this will allow for efficient mobilisation of crews and equipment to support planned programs, including the EM geophysical survey, further geological sampling and ongoing exploration activities.

“Importantly, once access is established, the ability to utilise an existing road removes the need for helicopter-supported mobilisation, which would otherwise have been required. This [should] deliver a significant reduction in anticipated expenditure while improving operational flexibility and timelines.

“This approval positions the company to rapidly transition into field activities as access works are completed and to advance Springfield through the 2026 field season toward drilling and potential development.”

The Australian company has awarded the access restoration contract to Dig Earth Inc., a McCall-based contractor specialising in low-impact clearing.

With access soon flowing, Pioneer will now be moving toward several near-term catalysts, including an electromagnetic geophysical survey to identify conductive zones associated with massive sulphide mineralisation.

The Western Australian-based exploration company is also evaluating modular processing plant concepts and preparing several applications for windfall U.S. Government funding; HotCopper understands Pionner is specifically targeting Department of War initiatives for domestic critmin supply chains.

PMM has been down -5%, to 19cps today.
