Vita Resources (ASX:VTA) has had to temporarily pull up stumps in its maiden exploration program at the Ninnis gold project in Western Australia to deal with the fallout from the recent passing of Tropical Cyclone Narelle.

Owing to the inclement weather as a direct result of Narelle, the company’s drilling contractor, GYRO Drilling Aus, has temporarily demobilised.

Before the impact created by the cyclone, as many as 850 of the targeted 1,200 auger holes were drilled. GYRO is now aiming to return to the site later in the quarter to complete the remaining budgeted 350 holes in the program.

In the meantime, samples from the holes drilled to date are being sent for assaying, with results expected back soon. The maiden Ninnis program is designed to infill previous gold-in-soil results generated from very widely spaced sub-surface soil sampling completed by the previous owner-operator.

“Whilst it is disappointing our maiden program has been interrupted owing to ground conditions simply being too wet, we are pleased to report that so far 850 holes of the anticipated 1,200 have been completed and we are in the process of sending samples to LabWest for assaying,” NEC, Gavin Rutherford, said.

“GYRO Drilling has been fantastic in keeping us abreast of the conditions at Ninnis, and we look forward to their return to complete the programme later this month.”

Ninnis is an early-stage gold exploration project located approximately 30 kilometres west of Laverton in the Eastern Goldfields region.

Acquired by Vita in November, the project covers 25 sq. km and presents a similar geological setting to several multi-million-ounce gold discoveries in the region, including Genesis Minerals'(ASX:GMD) Mount Morgans gold centre.

To date, no modern exploration has been undertaken at Ninnis; however, historical work dates back several decades. Previous soil sampling across the upper surface of the shallow-buried Wiluna Hardpan at Ninnis returned encouraging gold results to be tested with closer spaced auger sampling.

Following drilling and submission of samples to the LabWest laboratory for assaying, Vita intends to conduct a geochemistry review at Ninnis.

VTA is steady at 3.6¢. Mkt cap $2.635M.
