Maximus Resources (MXR) has begun a large-scale ground electromagnetic (EM) geophysics survey at its Central nickel prospect.

The Central nickel prospect lies 25 kilometres from BHP’s Kambalda Nickel Concentrator in Western Australia.

The fixed-loop electromagnetic (FLEM) survey will be completed over several under-explored prospective ultramafic belts.

Once received, the data will be used to target Kambalda-style nickel sulphide mineralisation.

Work is expected to take three weeks to complete with results expected shortly after.

The survey is funded by Maximus’ recently completed $12 million placement.

Managing Director Tim Wither is excited to begin exploration at the Central nickel target.

“The commencement of the major EM survey across the highly prospective Central nickel target is an exciting step forward for the company’s dual commodity strategy,” Mr Wither said.

“This is the first time in almost 20 years that modern high-powered EM surveys have been undertaken across the Central nickel prospect, which is amazing considering the highly prospective stratigraphy located between two significant historic high-grade nickel mines.”

Maximus was up 2.38 per cent on the market with shares trading at 8.6 cents at 12:31 pm AEST.
