AFT Pharmaceuticals (ASX: AFP) has secured an exclusive development, licensing and supply agreement for its Maxigesic® IV (also known as Combogesic® IV) pain treatment in Japan, opening a pathway into one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical markets.
The agreement with Japanese pharmaceutical company MIKASASEIYAKU CO., LTD. (Mikasa) provides AFT with multiple potential revenue streams, including an upfront licence fee, development milestones linked to regulatory submission progress and reimbursement pricing, plus royalties on commercial sales following launch. AFT will also supply the finished product to Mikasa.
Under the agreement, AFT will develop and supply Maxigesic® IV, while Mikasa will lead regulatory submissions to Japan’s Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) and pursue marketing approval and commercialisation in Japan.
For investors, regulatory progress, reimbursement pricing and eventual commercial launch will be key milestones to watch.
Maxigesic IV is a proprietary, non-opioid combination of paracetamol (1000mg) and ibuprofen (300mg), developed by AFT for the management of pain.
Japan represents the world’s third-largest pharmaceutical market, giving Maxigesic IV a significant potential addressable market if regulatory approval and commercialisation are achieved.
AFT said the collaboration is intended to make the treatment option available to patients and healthcare providers in Japan, subject to regulatory approval.
The deal extends the international reach of Maxigesic IV while establishing a local partner to navigate Japan’s regulatory and commercial environment.
