Metals Australia (MLS) has identified additional lithium-bearing pegmatites at the Manindi project in the Murchison region of Western Australia.
Importantly, the newly identified pegmatites extend the mapped corridor of pegmatite occurrences to over three kilometres of strike.
The new pegmatites that have been mapped and sampled include the largest pegmatite identified to date. The Foundation Pegmatite is over 500 metres long in a southwest-northeast direction, with multiple pegmatite outcrops over 200 metres in a northwest-southeast direction.
The Foundation Pegmatite is situated immediately northwest of the Mulgara, Mulgara North and Warabi pegmatites. Three mineralised pegmatite dykes were mapped and extend for over 300 metres in length and are up to 25 to 30 metres wide.
These three initially identified pegmatites produced high-grade results of up to 2.84 per cent lithium dioxide, 296 parts per million (ppm) tantalum pentoxide and caesium of up to 746ppm which confirmed the presence of lithium-caesium-tantalum (LCT) pegmatites.
Metals Australia has collected nine new rock chip samples from the newly identified pegmatites to the north of Mulgara. It also submitted two samples from the Foundation pegmatite for petrographic examination. This will help to identify the lithium-bearing minerals.
Additionally, the company plans to conduct preliminary drill testing of Foundation as well as drilling at Mulgara, Mulgara North and Warabi to follow up on the high grades. It will also carry out sampling and mapping over the pegmatites and the southern areas of the project which remain open for a further five kilometres to the southeast.
