Construction firm Multiplex has recently reached a remarkable milestone on Central Equity’s latest tower Melbourne Grand – after announcing that it has officially ‘topped out’ at an impressive 58 levels, towering 200 metres above street level.
The new $470 million Melbourne high rise is situated on a prominent site, at 560 Lonsdale Street in Melbourne’s CBD. Designed by renowned architects Guilford Bell and Graham Fisher, Melbourne Grand features a glittering facade, with a wave-like joinery motif, giving the tower a striking point of difference.
The high rise will comprise 646 residential apartments in a range of one, two and three-bedroom configurations.
A key feature of Melbourne Grand is the exclusive Lonsdale Club located on Level 10 which will overlook Lonsdale Street.
This floor will be dedicated to exclusive resident facilities including:
• A resident’s lounge with floor to ceiling windows
• Plush seating areas
• Dining areas with dual kitchens
• An outdoor terrace with gardens and two BBQ facilities
• A formal banquet room that can be booked for family occasions
• A coffee bar
• Indoor heated pool with sauna and spa
• Fully equipped gymnasium
• A sunlit yoga studio with floor to ceiling windows overlooking an outdoor garden terrace.
Making their name as one of the nation’s most prolific operators, Central Equity has completed more than 80 projects—primarily residential developments in Melbourne’s inner city and suburbs—since its incorporation in 1987.
Multiplex has delivered multiple Melbourne CBD apartment towers including Southbank Place, Southbank One and Southbank Grand for the business—with the latter, at 151 City Road, along with the nearby Melbourne One at 618 Lonsdale Street, both notable for their incorporation of heritage-listed buildings.
Melbourne Grand is set to continue this trend, as a heritage building on the Lonsdale site will also be restored as part of the project and will see one of Melbourne’s oldest buildings preserved for years to come.
“We are proud to have reached this major construction milestone and continue our on-going collaboration with Central Equity. Melbourne Grand will not only house a vibrant new vertical community, but it will also help preserve more of Melbourne’s history with the restoration of 556 Lonsdale Street,” Graham Cottam, Regional Managing Director of Multiplex Victoria.
According to Multiplex, 2200 workers have worked on-site to meet the milestone, with innovative construction methods including façade installation behind formwork screens, as well as precast elements used for cantilevered sections.
Construction challenges to date include working within the tight confines of one of Melbourne’s busy foot-traffic laneways and legal precinct. At the top of the building, the constantly changing curved shape of the floor plate necessitated multiple changeovers.
Melbourne Grand homes are currently available for sale with a selection of one, two and three-bedroom homes on offer. The luxury apartments will boast spacious living areas, high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling, double-glazed windows allowing sweeping views of Melbourne’s CBD.
Kitchens will include composite stone benchtops, feature lighting, soft-close high gloss cabinetry, German tapware and high-quality Miele appliances.
