Western Ridge Resources (ASX: WRX) has commenced its maiden reverse circulation (RC) drilling program at the historic Keystone project in Nevada, USA.

The Watchlist — short video interviews with ASX leaders. Watch now.

The drilling program will focus on the Keystone mine and its immediate surrounds, directly testing the strike and depth extensions of the main lode and historic workings.

“The first modern drilling program at Keystone is an important phase of the systematic exploration that we have been undertaking,” MD, Dr Matthew Cobb, said.

“Drilling will focus directly on the historic mine and its immediate surrounds, where the strongest geological evidence and several of our recent high-grade rock chip results are concentrated.

“Historic records indicate that approximately 36,000 ounces of silver were produced from roughly 1,500 tonnes mined between 1937 and 1943, before operations ceased. Our recent work has strengthened the case for follow-up drilling, including 344 grams per tonne (g/t) silver and up to 941 g/t silver.

“It has been more than 80 years for the first modern drilling at Keystone and we look forward to testing these targets beneath surface.”

The drilling program has been designed using geological mapping, historic plans, field reconnaissance and structural modelling. The program will follow up areas adjacent to the main Keystone mine lode where recent sampling returned 344 g/t silver, demonstrating that high-grade mineralisation is present.

The program will also test targets in the northwest of the project area, where underground sampling returned up to 941 g/t silver.

The company will be submitting samples from the current program for analysis as soon as available, with turn-around times at ALS Laboratories in Reno expected to be approximately three weeks.

As this data becomes available it will be incorporated into the working model for the Keystone deposit and used to update preliminary planning for Phase 2 drilling, in preparations for Earthworks towards the end of the year.

WRX was steady at 10.8¢ with as Mkt cap of $109.7M prior to markets opening.
