- Glencore has begun trading on ASX
- Comes after operating in Australia for decades
- One of the world’s largest globally diversified natural resource companies
- Has 140,000 employees and contractors working in over 30 countries
Global mining giant Glencore has begun trading on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) under the ASX code GLC.
CEO, Gary Nagle, said it was an exciting day for the company.
“Glencore has been investing in Australia for decades and we know the Australian investment community has a sophisticated understanding of global resources and commodity markets,” said Mr Nagle.
Glencore is one of the world’s largest globally diversified natural resource companies that produces and markets more than 60 commodities which advance everyday life. It has 140,000 employees and contractors working across our operations in over 30 countries.
“We produce, process, recycle, source, market and distribute the commodities that support growing energy demand and security, continued urbanisation, the energy transition and AI infrastructure,” Mr Nagle said.
The company has a primary listing in London and an existing secondary listing in Johannesburg, with US$28.7 billion of announced shareholder returns since 2021, which represents about one-third of the company’s market cap.
“We believe our portfolio of mainly brownfield copper growth projects provides us with a clear pathway to become one of the world’s largest copper producers. In addition, our traditional bulk operations, including steel making and energy coal, along with our leading marketing business has consistently generated sizeable cash flows” said Mr Nagle, who noted that copper, in particular, is essential to everything from power grids and renewable energy to electric vehicles and AI data centres.
The ASX listing deepens Glencore’s 30-year commitment to Australia. Glencore is one of Australia’s largest and most diverse resources companies, with 16,820 employees and contractors across 16 active mining operations and seven metals processing facilities.
It is Australia’s largest producer of coal, cobalt, nickel, lead and zinc. The Glencore Technology business offers a range of mineral processing technology solutions to global smelters and refineries, and Glencore’s oil business is one of the largest importers of liquid fuels (including diesel) into Australia contributing to national fuel security.
“We are very proud of the important economic contribution we make in Australia,” said Mr Nagle.
“Over the past five years, Glencore has directly contributed A$95 billion to the Australian economy, including support for more than 6,440 Australian-based businesses and payment of over $24 billion in taxes and royalties to Australian governments.”
