Echo IQ (ASX: EIQ) has secured a research collaboration with Mayo Clinic to evaluate the use of its artificial intelligence platform in identifying cardiovascular risk among patients undergoing cancer treatment.

The research study, titled Evaluation of Cardiotoxicity in Patients Receiving Cancer Therapy and Risk Stratification, will be conducted at Mayo Clinic Arizona under the direction of cardiologist Dr Chadi Ayoub.

Researchers will assess whether Echo IQ’s AI tech can generate predictive heart failure risk scores using routinely acquired echocardiographic data from oncology patients.

The collaboration targets the emerging cardio-oncology field, which focuses on managing cardiovascular complications associated with cancer treatment. As cancer survival rates improve, healthcare providers are increasingly focused on identifying and managing long-term treatment-related heart complications.

Echo IQ said the research will examine whether AI-driven analysis of standard echocardiographic scans can help identify patients at elevated cardiovascular risk before clinical symptoms emerge, potentially enabling earlier intervention and improved patient outcomes.

According to the company, more than 20 million new cancer cases are diagnosed each year globally, with a significant proportion of patients requiring cardiac monitoring during treatment. Understanding cardiovascular risk in this patient population remains an active area of clinical investigation.

Under the arrangement, de-identified echocardiographic data will be processed within a secure environment using Echo IQ’s AI model to generate heart failure risk scores.

The parties intend to co-author a manuscript for peer-reviewed publication following completion of the study, which is expected in the 1H CY27.

Echo IQ said the project represents an opportunity to assess the applicability of its AI platform beyond its current cardiovascular applications and into a large, clinically important oncology population.

Echo IQ’s AI platform holds FDA clearance for assessing aortic stenosis.
