Leeuwin Metals (ASX: LM1) has unveiled plans for an exploration campaign in WA’s Gascoyne region on the hunt for gold at its 100% owned Gascoyne Gold Project (GGP).
Geotechs will hit the ground running this month in a soil sampling program informed by existing geochem data as the first step towards the identification of drilling targets down the road.
Notably, Leeuwin reported the project area landholding as “unexplored” on Wednesday; nearby is located the Glenburgh Gold Project, the purview of Benz Mining Corp.
That project is along the same geological belt wherein Leeuwin geotechs have their eyes on a potential high-priority gold target.
Originally, Leeuwin was on the hunt for lithium and rare earth element (REE) mineralisation; but a ‘strategic review’ of existing datasets led the company to the realisation it may be sitting on gold.
“Our strategic review has highlighted a compelling gold opportunity at our 100%-owned Gascoyne Project,” LM1 EC Christopher Piggott said.
“The ground sits in the same belt as Benz Mining’s Glenburgh Gold Project, in a district that is now attracting significant exploration investment, yet it has seen very little modern gold exploration.
“Soil sampling is a proven, low-cost first step in this terrain and will commence in October.”
In the background, at another project owned by Leeuwin – called Marda – drilling is to commence this month.
“Our focus remains on drilling at our cornerstone Marda Gold Project, which is due to commence in the coming week,” Piggott added on Wednesday.
