  • Phase four aircore drilling underway at Granite Well East prospect
  • 3,200m of AC drilling and 53 holes planned
  • Following up potential sizeable gold system
  • Mt McKenna located in proven gold producing area

Platina Resources (ASX: PGM) has commenced phase four aircore drilling at the prospective Mt McKenna Gold project in Western Australia.

The Watchlist — short video interviews with ASX leaders. Watch now.

The company’s second program at the Granite Well East prospect features 53 aircore (AC) holes for approximately 3,200m and is designed to follow up highly encouraging mineralisation identified in phase three AC drilling earlier this year.

MD and CEO, Dr Paul Polito, said program at Granite Well East prospect provided strong evidence for a potentially much larger gold system.

“This aircore drilling program is designed to test the potential strike continuity and lateral extent of the gold mineralisation identified in phase three and to provide vectors towards higher-grade zones,” Dr Polito said.

“The results of this program will assist in determining the scale, continuity and significance of mineralisation and guide subsequent exploration, such as reverse circulation drilling or induced polarisation surveys.”

Phase three drilling identified multiple mineralised zones at Granite Well East.

The Granite Well East target sits within an observed mineralised corridor selected following multiple exploration datasets, including geological mapping, surface geochemical sampling, reinterpretation of historical geophysical data, and a detailed ground gravity survey.

Several phase three drilling intercepts extended to or finished near the bottom of hole, indicating the mineralisation remains open at depth beneath the weathered profile.

The target area lies where two major structural corridors are interpreted to intersect and encompasses three broad lithological domains.

Dr Polito said the juxtaposition of these lithologies and structures provides a favourable setting for focusing and trapping gold-bearing fluids and is consistent with the geological settings of major gold deposits in the Leonora-Laverton region.

The Mt McKenna project lies 13km east of Laverton, adjacent to Genesis Minerals’ (ASX:GMD) 3.9 million ounce (Moz) Laverton project and 20km north-east of Goldfields’ (ASX:GFI) 3.9 Moz Granny Smith gold mine.

PGM was steady at 1.9¢ with a Mkt cap of $13.12M prior to markets opening.
